An Evening of ‘Panchakabir Gaan’ by Riddhi Bandyopadhyay from Kolkata. Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre organised an Evening of ‘Panchakabir Gaan’ by Riddhi Bandyopadhyay from Kolkata at Chhayanaut Auditorium, Dhaka at 6.30 PM on 20 October, 2017. Riddhi Bandyopadhyay’s latest album of songs of Atul Prasad will also be released at the event.
Ms. Riddhi Bandyopadhyay, popularly known as ‘Panchakabir Kannya’ among the Bengali music lover communities in India, Bangladesh and other countries, is known to have pioneered the concept of ‘Panchakabir Gaan’ encompassing the songs of Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Dwijendralal Ray, Rajanikanta Sen and Atul Prasad Sen.
She has trained under the tutelage of eminent musicians namely, Smt. Maya Sen, Dr. Sailen Das, Smt. Bani Thakur, Smt. Manju Gupta, Smt. Krishna Chattopadhyay, Sri Sushil Chattopadhyay, Sri Chandi Das Maal, Sri Debi Ranjan Bandyopadhyay ( Bishnupur Gharana), Dr. Devajit Bandyopadhyay, Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty and Sri Naren Mukhopadhyay.
She has performed as playback singer in numerous Bengali films and Bengali serials in West Bengal, India. She is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including Junior Fellowship Award on Panchakabir Gaan by Ministry of Culture, Government of India, Scholarship Award of Rajya Sangeet Academy, Government of West Bengal.
She has performed at different National and International level forums which include National School of Drama, NABC 2013 (Toronto), NABC 2015 (Houston) & NABC 2017 (Silicon Valley), London Sharad Utsav (ABP Ananda), Panchakabir Gaan organized by Bangladesh National Museum etc.
She is a faculty at Dover Lane Music Conference and an examiner in the Department of Musicology, Rabindra Bharati University.
Ms. Riddhi also regularly conducts Lecture – Demonstrations at Auburn University, Auburn Alabama, Kolkata University, Presidency University, Jadavpur University, Rabindra Bharati University, Burdwan University, Paschim Banga Bangla Academy, Kolkata, Paschim Banga Rajya Sangeet Academy, Kolkata, Paschim Banga Natya Academy, Kolkata. Sahitya Academy, Kolkata, International Theatre Institute, Dhaka, etc. She has written a book titled ‘Rajanikanto’ after years of research, published by Patra Bharati.
